The seasons are changing and it’s feeling more like autumn now, which means darker conditions, wetter roads and paths and fallen leaves to contend with.

  1. Greater stopping distances: Tyre grip is often compromised on wet or icy roads. Allow greater stopping distances for you and other road users because it may take longer for your brakes to work effectively.  
  2. Take care cornering: You should take corners smoothly and avoid hazards such as drain grates, white lines and debris.  
  3. Be seen: Wear bright reflective clothing to ensure other road users can see you. 
  4. Avoid busy routes: If suitable choose routes with less traffic to reduce exposure to potential hazards. Certain routes may not be well lit so ensure you have adequate lights on your bike.   
  5. Maintain primary and secondary riding positions: Ensuring you are in the eye-line of other road users.
