120 jobs lost as Mereway Kitchens Ltd collapses into administration

We are sorry to read reports that Mereway Kitchens Ltd has collapsed into administration nearly 5 months after the company was rescued in a pre-pack deal. 120 jobs have now been lost in Birmingham as the firm’s poor sales volumes left the business unprofitable amid a “weakening market”. Huw Powell, Paul Wood and Mark Malone at Begbies Traynor have been appointed administrators.

Unfortunately, it is common for administrators to make immediate redundancies, without prior warning or any consultation process. A failure to follow a consultation process could lead to employees being able to claim compensation from an Employment Tribunal of up to 90 days’ pay. Such a claim could be pursued if:

  • 20 or more people were made redundant at the same workplace; and
  • There was no information and consultation process, or it wasn’t carried out correctly prior to making redundancies.

If you have been made redundant and need advice, contact our employment team confidentially now for more information.

There are strict Tribunal deadlines within which to pursue these claims, so you mustn’t delay if you believe you may be affected.
