Morrish Solicitors secure £22,000 compensation for woman injured in car accident

A female driver who was injured as a result of a car accident has been awarded £22,000 compensation with the help of Morrish Solicitors.
The female, 25, from Redditch, was travelling at approximately 60-65 mph along the M42 in March 2010, when a lorry in front of her lost control and collided with another vehicle. This led to her performing an emergency stop in order to avoid hitting the lorry.
She suffered from injuries to her neck, back and arm which, required immediate medical treatment and continued to experience significant symptoms of neck, back and shoulder pain, along with ongoing psychological injuries, including flash backs of the accident.  She was not able to return to driving for some 9 months as she was so traumatised.
The injuries and ongoing treatment, which included physiotherapy, acupuncture and steroid injections, meant that she had to take 10 weeks off of work over a number of months and required care and assistance which was provided by members of her family.  She also suffered a significant loss of earnings for the period that she was off of work.
Morrish Solicitors obtained medical evidence from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who confirmed that the female driver’s physical injuries and symptoms were as a result of the accident.  A Psychologist was later instructed, who confirmed that she was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and would require ongoing treatment.
Proceedings were issued and liability for the accident was admitted by the driver of the lorry, but the Defendant disputed the extent of the female driver’s injuries and financial losses which were incurred as a result of the accident.
An initial settlement offer was put forward in the sum of £17,000, which was rejected.  An increased offer was then put forward in the sum of £22,000. This was inclusive of the female driver’s financial losses suffered as a result of the accident and the claim for injury.
