Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot of one of the deep veins in the body. DVT usually occurs in a deep vein in the leg that runs through the muscles of the calf and thigh. It can cause pain and swelling in the leg and may lead to extremely serious complications such as pulmonary embolism (PE), where the clot breaks free, travels through the bloodstream to the lungs and blocks and artery.
NHS statistics demonstrate that 1 in every 1,000 people in the UK is affected by DVT each year.
The failure or delay in diagnosis and treatment of a DVT/PE by a medical professional is very serious and can lead to long-term health problems, leg ulcers, requirement for long term anticoagulation medicine and in some cases fatality.
Some examples of our successful cases include:
- An award of £40,000.00 for the failure to diagnose and treat a Pulmonary Embolism resulting in death.
- An award of £55,000.00 for the delay in diagnosis and treatment of a DVT in the leg.
