Annual Report of the ET and EAT

The recently issued annual report makes interesting reading –

ACAS Early Conciliation has led to settlement in 22% of potential ET claims (before issue of proceedings).

Issued ET claims have fallen by 81% after the introduction of ET fees with “some types of discrimination claims showing a steep decline”.

Because of the decline, no new ET Judges have been recruited in the last year (whilst a number have retired).

In the EAT (Employment Appeal Tribunal) the fall in appeals has been described as “startling”.

There has been a significant rise in unrepresented parties in the EAT with 60% of parties having no legal representation (a year or so ago only 40% had no legal representation).
