Specialist Areas of Practise

Inspired by:

Shun Fujimoto’s dismount from the rings in the 1976 Montreal Olympics men’s team gymnastics.  Fujimoto had broken the patella in his knee during the floor event but rather than withdrawing from the competition he put the pain out of his mind, concealed his injury from his team, concentrated on a faultless performance and scored 9.5 in the pommel horse and 9.7 in the rings to help his team take the gold medal, beating Russia’s total by 0.4 points overall.  Remember – in Olympic sports you can’t take any pain relief, not even so much as an aspirin.  I still can’t watch his dismount without either goosebumps or a lump in my throat.  That’s an inspiring moment for me because it’s an incredible, real life example of what you can achieve when you put your mind to it. Captain "Sully" Sullenburger's landing in the Hudson River is another inspiring story.

Role:

As Head of Communications, my role is to strategically align the firm’s marketing communications and PR activities, which is marketing-speak for “my job is to make sure that what we say about ourselves matches what we do and achieve for our clients and what happens at the coalface on a daily basis”.

Career with Morrish Solicitors:

Joined the practice in 2008.  What I love about this firm is that so many of the solicitors here remind me, in one way or another, of Atticus Finch.

Background:

I have a very broad based marketing background.  I’ve worked in sports marketing, corporate marketing, retail and consumer marketing and public relations.  In my past career I worked for Nike, covering Asia, Oceania and South Africa, the World Sport Group, my family’s company in Fiji and a little telemarketing start-up in London working for two young, hardworking Scots who are now not-so-young but deserving millionaires.  And now, Leeds!

Interests:

Yoga, surfing, anything to do with Fiji rugby, and spending time with my family.  I actively support women’s further education in the South Pacific and my native Fiji and long for the day that Fiji returns to the path of democracy.

Heroes:

My husband, for reasons he already knows.  My parents, for coming from abject poverty but managing to succeed in their own, extraordinary lives to give their children a great head start in life.  Former General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation, Dato’ Peter Velappan, for everything he envisaged and heroically achieved to promote Asian football onto the world stage within 10 years, and yet he remains an extremely humble and gracious man.
