Specialist Areas of Practise

Inspiration:

I have always considered this practice something of a ministry because it’s not just about the law, it’s about serving the community and being a part of it. This kind of practice is a taproot into the community. It’s not an ivory tower, it’s the exact opposite, rather like the grassroots of life.

Year of qualification:

1976

Specialises in:

Probate, Wills, Inheritance Tax planning and other Elderly Client services.

Career with Morrish Solicitors:

I have practised in Pudsey for many years with Lindley Clough (now part of Morrish Solicitors). Although I specialise in the above matters, I suppose I could be described as a traditional high street lawyer, and my range extends to many other aspects of life in the community.

Memberships:

I am a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and also of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

Interests:

Rambling, gardening, history and vintage motor cars with dubious brakes.

Heroes:

I’ve always liked people with quiet courage, who come from a disadvantaged situation but have had the determination to improve their lot . If I were to host a dinner party to which I could invite absolutely anyone from history, I’d have Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a Titan of a man, to whom nothing seemed impossible ; Dr Samuel Johnson, who hid great kindness behind a mighty intellect and sometimes an intimidating exterior (it was said he could slay the opposition with a single sentence); JB Priestley, because he was avuncular, he was from Yorkshire and he penned wonderful stories of the ordinary person unexpectedly caught up in circumstances leading to heroic deeds ; King George V, who wasn’t a great intellectual, but who possessed something far more valuable than that – he had common sense ; and, finally, Edward Lear who I hope might keep us all sane by reciting "The Owl and the Pussycat" or some other delightful absurdity.
