Inspiration:
My Parents. Mum was an incredibly brave, strong woman. She taught us the true value of family and friends . She had a ‘Can Do’ attitude, always encouraged us to give 110%, to live each day as though it’s your last. She had a great sense of humour and never took herself too seriously. She still inspires me to this day; though she passed away almost 20 years ago. They both taught us that if there’s something you want, give it your all and you’ll get it.
Year of qualification:
1994
Specialises in:
Personal Injury. I have specialised in personal injury law for almost 15 years. I have experience in dealing with a wide range of claims including victims suffering from fatal or very serious injuries.
Career with Morrish Solicitors:
I have pursued a diverse mix of personal injury claims including injuries such as paraplegia, severe head injury, asbestos related diseases, upper limb disorders including HAVS, psychiatric injury caused by occupational stress and many other accident related injuries. I joined the firm in 2000, having previously represented Trade Union injury victims, becoming a Partner in 2004. I am Head of the Personal Injury Department for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL). I continue to represent Trade Union members both nationally and regionally. I am Editor of the Morrish Solicitors Bulletin, which is distributed to a wide range of Trade Unions and other organisations interested in receiving legal advice and information.
Memberships:
I have an Advanced Professional Diploma in Personal Injury and have been a member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel since 1998.
Interests:
I combine my busy career with a very full family life. I am the Chair of Governors of a Wakefield Primary School. I enjoy time spent with my family, my two dogs, swimming, cycling and, when I have the time, I am a keen (albeit high handicapped) golfer!
Heroes:
Martin Luther King Jnr, because he is so inspirational. He was a voice for so many people who had no voice at all. Also George Elliot, who used to write under a man’s name; What a genius! - to become a successful female author in that day and age. I am indebted to both my Dad and his best friend, both of whom told me I must not become an accountant, and steered me instead towards law – which I love. I really am grateful to them for that.
