NASS give stable staff a voice, says Sorensen
Date: 2010-01-22
A major national trade union for the horse-racing industry has become a stronger voice in racing's future, according to a key adviser to the trade union speaking today.
David Sorensen, Partner at Morrish Solicitors, said today that the National Association of Stable Staff (NASS) has completed its first year affiliated to the Trade Union Congress and will continue to grow from strength to strength to achieve better benefit for its members who traditionally had very little say in the industry.
"NASS has been able to improve the benefits for its members throughout the year, including winning appeals for pool money, compensation for unfair dismissal and unlawful deductions from wages. Workplace injuries are a serious concern for stable staff because their job is very physical often being injured means not being fit to work, which can lead to loss of earnings," explained Sorensen. "NASS has been able to organise in the workplace and the result is improving pay and conditions for stable staff."
NASS will hold their AGM at the British Racing School in Newmarket from Monday, including an address from Sorensen.
