ATL member settles £2000 for injured knee

Date: 2010-01-05

Morrish Solicitors secured a £2000 settlement for an Association of Teachers and Lecturers member for a knee injury she sustained on defective flooring at work.

The member's classroom was an old style laboratory with original lino tile flooring which had started to crumble in places, and she had previously pointed out the hazard to her employer. She had been clearing the room before going home when she tripped on a defective area of the floor. Although she did not fall, she suffered a jarring injury to her knee.

Her employer strongly denied liability for the accident, claiming the floor was not in a dangerous state and denying that concerns had been raised.  Morrish Solicitors commenced Court proceedings and the employer settled a few weeks before trial for £2000.
