Morrish Solicitors opens Bradford office

Telegraph and Argus, 26 November 2009 - The opening of a new city centre law office has been hailed as a positive move for the firm and for Bradford.

Gerry Sutcliffe, Sports Minister and MP for Bradford South, opened the new office of Morrish Solicitors on Broadway.

He paid tribute to businesses, saying several national companies thrived in the district.

Mr Sutcliffe said: "We have a number of great companies here in Bradford. We have a major Marks & Spencer development on the M606, and there are international developments in the city centre.

"One or two projects have stalled, it's true. But at the same time major companies like Morrisons and NG Bailey thrive here and just get on with their business.

"This is a real, positive step for both Bradford and Morrish Solicitors."

Morrish, which specialises in trade union law, was established in 1882 and has offices in Leeds, Yeadon and Pudsey. The Bradford office opening makes it the largest law firm to reverse the trend of closing local branches.

Duncan Gardiner, partner in charge of the Bradford office, said: "We're very proud to be open in Bradford and to play a part in the city's bright future.

"For too many years law firms have been closing their Bradford offices to move to Leeds, so it's good to be reversing that trend.

"No one at Morrish Solicitors can understand why so many law firms have moved out of Bradford and into Leeds. It's great to be here. Now we're open, we can get on with it. "

Bradford West MP Marsha Singh also attended the event and urged other businesses to come here.

Mark Delves from Invest in Bradford, said: "It is good to see another successful company looking at the potential Bradford has to offer."
