Morrish Solicitors help woman knocked unconscious in road accident

A 47-year old woman from Rugby has received compensation following a traffic collision, which left her with head and facial injuries, along with damage to her knee.

The car, in which the woman was a passenger, was driving onto a roundabout when a Vauxhall Corsa collided with the front side of the car, forcing it into a head-on collision with another car.

The woman, who was knocked unconscious, had to be cut free from the wreckage and rushed to Walsgrave Hospital where she underwent a head scan. She suffered injuries to her head, cuts above her eye, damage to her knee and a broken tooth, which left her with numbness in her lip for 5 months after the accident.

Although she was sent home later that day, she continued to suffer pain in her knee and headaches. X-rays did not reveal any broken bones; therefore her GP referred her to an Orthopaedic department for further x-rays, MRI scan and blood tests. Tests showed that she suffered from degeneration of the knee, which had been accelerated by the accident and she was prescribed a course of steroid injections to help relieve the pain. However, nearly four years later, she is left with continual pain in her knee, which has had an impact on her quality of life.

The woman avoided travelling following the accident and suffered from low moods and anxiety and was referred to a Consultant Psychiatrist who diagnosed her with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and prescribed medication and counselling.

Settlement secured

Investigations carried out by Jason London, Partner at Morrish Solicitors, revealed that the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa caused the accident through negligent driving and liability was admitted.

Trial was listed for 28 October 2015 at Coventry Crown Court; however, following negotiations a full and final settlement figure of £15,000 was accepted.

The woman said: “The outcome of my accident wasn’t just the physical pain and discomfort I suffered, but also the psychological impact it has had on my life.

This is a situation that could easily have been avoided. I am delighted with the final settlement I have received, with the help of Jason at Morrish Solicitors.  I can now look forward to enjoying life with my family.”
