Morrish Solicitors achieve objectives under Dementia Action Plan

Morrish Solicitors became a member of the Leeds Dementia Action Alliance and also the Bradford District Dementia Action Alliance in 2014. The Dementia Action Alliance brings together organisations across England committed to transforming the lives of people with dementia and their carers. We felt it was important to be recognised as a ‘dementia friendly’ organisation so that our clients with dementia felt comfortable in our office environment.

We set ourselves three objectives to achieve. These were as follows:

  1. Members of staff were to receive refresher training on client contact and the importance of patience and care for those affected by dementia.
  2. Signage and seating was to be improved in the Bradford, Leeds, Pudsey and Yeadon offices.
  3. We promised to encourage local groups to join the Alliance and highlight the importance of Power of Attorney to those affected by dementia

We have now achieved our objectives and feel more confident than ever that we can deliver an all round service to our clients.

As a legal services provider, we come into contact with people with Dementia and their family carers on a daily basis.

We have a team within the firm specialising in elderly client services who are trained to deal with clients who may have Dementia. We aim to provide a service that allows the client to feel at ease in our presence and give them the confidence to be able to express their views with us. We encourage clients to make Lasting Powers of Attorney to allow those suffering from Dementia to make important decisions about who will assist them in managing either their property and financial affairs or decisions about health and welfare in the future.

We provide home visits to those clients who may struggle in an office environment.

All of our solicitors within the Elderly Client team are members of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE). Our Department Head, Mr Tom Morrish, is the Regional Coordinator for SFE.

We work closely with charities such as Age UK and Alzheimer’s Society and also with smaller community groups to best serve vulnerable adults and people suffering from Dementia. As with all service providers, we strive to provide the best customer service experience for all clients.
