Access to justice hit once again as court fees set to rise

The Government is proposing to increase some court fees by over 600%, which come into force this Monday. This applies to ‘specified’ and ‘unspecified’ money claims and will affect the fee to issue proceedings for the recovery of money on claims worth £10,000 or more. For these claims the new fee will be five per cent of the value of the claim capped at a maximum fee of £10,000.
For example if your claim is £20,000 the current court fee is £610; as of next week it would be £1,000. That’s a 64% increase! If your claim is £190,000 the current court fee is £1,315; as of next week it would be £9,500.00. That’s a 622% increase!
